Live performance of Vangelis's score to Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (2007 Final Cut) by The Avex Ensemble on a vast HD screen at the Palace Theatre.
Blade Runner Live comes to the Palace Theatre on Tuesday, November 10, at 7:30 PM. It's a one-night show presented by CAPA, and the setup is exactly what the title suggests: Ridley Scott's cult classic playing on a vast HD screen with Vangelis's score performed live in sync by The Avex Ensemble.
The film is the 2007 Final Cut edition, the most complete version of the story. It's set in a dystopian future and follows Rick Deckard, a former police officer brought back into service as a Replicant Hunter. His job is to track down and retire bioengineered beings that look and act human, but the mission gets complicated when he meets Rachel, a Replicant who believes she's human. Vangelis's score, built on sweeping synthesizers and atmospheric textures, redefined what electronic music could do in cinema, and that's what you'll be hearing live from the stage while the movie runs.
This isn't a local one-off. The show had its North American premiere on February 17, 2024, and is touring the U.S. by arrangement with Warner Bros. as a production of Avex Classics International. The Avex Ensemble is the group tasked with recreating that synthesizer-led sound in real time, so the music isn't just playing from a recording—it's being performed live in the room, timed to the action on screen.
