ProMusica Chamber Orchestra plays Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3, Pärt's Tabula Rasa and Beethoven's Pastoral, with guest conductor Ken-David Masur and soloists Katherine McLin and Vadim Gluzman.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra plays the Southern Theatre on Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, with the same program both nights. The bill brings together three composers from different centuries: Bach, Pärt, and Beethoven.
It opens with Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major, a bright, baroque piece. The middle of the evening is Arvo Pärt's Tabula Rasa, a meditative work for two violins and string orchestra. The night closes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 6, the Pastoral, which is built around portraits of nature. The program is shaped by that contrast—baroque, contemporary, and classical voices in one sitting.
There are a few firsts here. Tabula Rasa marks the first time concertmaster Katherine McLin and Creative Partner Vadim Gluzman have performed the piece together, and these concerts are the ProMusica debut of guest conductor Ken-David Masur. ProMusica itself is a dynamic ensemble of 37 musicians from across the country, led by Music Director David Danzmayr and Gluzman, who describes the orchestra's approach as honoring classical traditions while championing contemporary music and commissioning today's composers.

The evening is presented in honor of longtime supporter Wayne Lawson, whose friends and colleagues established The Wayne P. Lawson Fund for Creativity at The Columbus Foundation in recognition of his lifetime dedication to Ohio's artists and creators. After the music, a post-concert conversation called Coda gives the audience a chance to meet the artists. Both performances start at 7 PM, with doors opening at 6 PM.
