Discussion and book signing with authors Daniel Roberts and Karen Eliot of 'The Artistry of Merce Cunningham'.
Daniel Roberts and Karen Eliot are coming to Prologue Bookshop on Tuesday, October 27, for a discussion and book signing. They're the authors of The Artistry of Merce Cunningham, which came out on June 30, 2026. The book looks at Cunningham's creative processes and presents them as an inspiration for dancers and choreographers working today.
Both Roberts and Eliot have a direct connection to the work they're writing about. Daniel Roberts is a choreographer, dance accompanist, and professor of dance at The Ohio State University; he danced with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company from 2000 to 2005, and he now teaches Cunningham technique and restages the repertory around the world. Karen Eliot is a professor emerita at the same university and the author of Albion's Dance: British Ballet during the Second World War; she danced with the company from 1983 to 1988 and taught Cunningham technique for two decades.
Between them, they've spent years inside the company and decades teaching the technique, so they're talking from a place of first-hand experience rather than just research. The evening is set up as a discussion followed by a signing, so you'll get to hear them talk through the book before you can get your copy signed.
