A region-wide cultural showcase of African cultures with traditional and contemporary dance, singing, spoken word, a fashion showcase and a flag ceremony, presented by CAPA.
African Night comes to the Southern Theatre on Sunday, November 15, a region-wide cultural showcase that celebrates the diversity, creativity and unity of African cultures. It's presented by CAPA, the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts, and it's a large production that brings together alumni, current students, faculty and members of the greater OSU and Midwestern African student community in an authentic and inclusive space.
The whole evening is built around live performance, and it covers a lot of ground. You'll see traditional and contemporary dance, singing, spoken word and poetry, and a fashion showcase. There's also a flag walk and a flag ceremony that represents unity across African nations. It's not just a single act, but a full program that moves from one form to another throughout the night.
One of the things that sets it apart is who's on stage. African student organizations from neighboring universities are invited to take part alongside OSU students, so it's a cross-campus effort rather than something confined to one school. It's a major cultural highlight on campus and consistently draws strong community engagement.
