An experimental open mic for musicians, actors, dancers, poets and performers of all skill levels, hosted by Goodyear Arts.
Way Out Open Mic returns to Goodyear Arts on Wednesday, October 7, with Virginia Broyles as the featured performer. It's part of an ongoing series that runs the first Wednesday of every month, and this particular edition comes in collaboration with Doomsday 704.
If you're not familiar with it, Way Out is Charlotte's experimental open mic. It's an open call for local musicians, actors, dancers, and poets to share avant-garde and forward-thinking work, and it's open to performers of all skill levels. The organizers bill it as a safe space for experimental ideas and practice, so it's as much about trying something out as it is about showing a finished piece. Virginia Broyles takes the featured spot this time around, and the rest of the night is filled by whoever signs up on the spot.
The night is hosted by Goodyear Arts, an artist-led nonprofit arts space in Camp North End. They provide paid studio residencies to local artists and free, innovative programming for Charlotte audiences. Their residency program gives time, space, money, and community to local artists each year, and alumni are invited to join the Goodyear Arts Collective, who use the studio and rehearsal space. The open mic is one part of that programming.
