A cultural dance night with free dance lessons, DJ, percussion, cultural vendors and live painters, opening the museum galleries late.
Mint Museum Uptown hosts Mint 2 Move: Día de las Velitas on Friday, December 4, from 7 PM to 11 PM. The night is built around the Rumbao Latin Dance Company, which leads free dance lessons throughout the evening, so you can get on your feet even if you've never danced a day in your life.
On the music side, DJ Carlos LeBron keeps the floor moving, and the Mint 2 Move Percussion Trio adds live percussion to the mix. The dance lessons aren't the only thing happening: local cultural organizations and artists perform throughout the night, and cultural vendors set up shop alongside live painters working in the space. It's a full evening that runs from the first lesson to the final track, with plenty to do between the dancing.
Mint 2 Move is more than a dance party. The series is framed as a cultural experience paying tribute to artists and dance forms from around the globe, bringing together a lineup of performers, activities, and dancing inside the museum. It works as a community event that opens the galleries late, so you can wander through the art when the museum would normally be closed. There's a cash bar on hand, and the night is supported by a media sponsor.
