A free tree adoption event where residents can receive free trees and training on how to care for them, with a mandatory planting demonstration.
TreesCharlotte is giving away free trees at 701 Tuckaseegee Road on Saturday, October 17, from 8:30 to 11 AM. It's one of several Tree Adoption events they hold throughout the year, and this one is open to Mecklenburg County residents. If you've been wanting to add some greenery to your yard but didn't want to drop a bunch of money on it, this is your chance.
Here's how it works: each eligible household can take home up to two free trees, and you get a bag of mulch for each one. The trees come in containers up to 7 gallons, grow up to 10 feet tall, and can weigh up to 20 pounds, so you'll want a way to get them home. There's one catch you should know about before you show up: everyone who attends has to take part in a planting demonstration on the day. It's not just a pickup; you'll walk away knowing how to actually get your trees in the ground and keep them healthy.
TreesCharlotte is a nonprofit dedicated to expanding the city's tree canopy, and they rely on donations to keep these programs running. They run two kinds of adoption events: Countywide ones, which are open to everyone in Mecklenburg County, and Zip code events, which are limited to residents of specific areas. This one is a Countywide event, so as long as you live in the county, you're eligible.
