A folk-rock night featuring The Takes, plus singer-songwriter Ranford Almond and piano-driven rock artist Joe May, presented by Confluence & Blue Ave Music.
The Takes are playing The Evening Muse on Thursday, October 8, with Ranford Almond and Joe May opening. The night is presented by Confluence & Blue Ave Music.
The Takes are a folk-rock group from Portland, Oregon, fronted by Sumner Rahr on guitar and vocals, with Guido Rahr on guitar and Phoebe Webb on bass. They've played Bonnaroo, BottleRock, and Extra Innings Fest, and have sold out headline dates in New York City, Chicago, and Colorado Springs. Their 2024 EP Lay Hold leaned into their country and blues-rock tendencies, and they released the single "Take My Time" in the summer of 2025. Their third EP, Uprooting Roses, came out May 1, 2026.
Ranford Almond is a Greensboro, North Carolina singer-songwriter whose raspy vocals and Appalachian guitar style draw on John Prine and Townes Van Zandt. Joe May plays piano-driven rock shaped by 1970s pop, McCartney-esque melodicism, and his Brazilian roots, with cheeky storytelling and improvisation. Between the three, the bill runs from Appalachian folk to piano-rock to the folk-rock The Takes have been building toward over their last few releases.
