The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performs the music from Disney's animated masterpiece The Lion King while the film is shown on the big screen.
The Charlotte Symphony brings The Lion King to the Belk Theater in Charlotte on Friday, April 23, 2027, and Saturday, April 24, 2027. It's part of a concert series where you watch and hear your favorite movies on the big screen, from the opening title sequence through to the credits, while the orchestra performs the score live. The sound is wrapped in real surround sound, so the music comes from around you rather than just from the stage.
This particular performance follows the story of Simba dreaming of being king in Disney's animated masterpiece. Since the film runs from start to finish, you're seeing the whole thing—the animation on screen and the symphony playing along with it in the room. It's a different way to experience a movie you've probably seen plenty of times, with the music being played live instead of coming from a recording.
It's one of several movie concerts the symphony puts on, so if you're into this format, there are usually others to choose from throughout the season. The Belk Theater is in the heart of the city, and with two dates to pick from, you can go on a Friday night or a Saturday afternoon.
