A weekly collaborative arts gathering featuring visual artists, musicians, DJs, open mics, dance and acro yoga in a creative setting.
The Happening is back at Jackalope Jack's this Wednesday, October 7, starting at 8 PM. It's a collaborative arts movement here in Charlotte that takes the form of a weekly gathering of creative people, and the night is different every single week. The whole point is that it brings together visual artists, musicians, and DJs to make art in a collaborative setting, so you're seeing things come together in real time rather than just watching a finished performance.
The regular program mixes collaborative art and painting with acro yoga instruction, open mics, local DJs, drums, flow, dance, music, and karaoke. Because the mix changes from week to week, you might find yourself watching someone paint while a DJ spins, or taking a few acro yoga pointers before the open mic kicks in. It's less of a set list and more of a creative free-for-all that pulls from a few different worlds at once.
If you've never been, it's a good way to see what the local arts scene looks like when it's not separated into tidy categories. You've got the visual side and the musical side happening in the same room, and the collaborative part means people are actually working together on the fly rather than just taking turns on a stage. It's a weekly thing, so if you miss this one, there's always next Wednesday.
