The First National Touring Company of the Tony Award-winning musical The Great Gatsby, directed by Marc Bruni and choreographed by Dominique Kelley.
The Great Gatsby comes to the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Arts Center from October 13 to 18, presented by Blumenthal Arts. It's the Tony Award-winning musical based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic American novel, and this particular run is staged by the show's First National Touring Company. Entertainment Weekly described it as a "Broadway extravaganza that explodes with life and energy," which gives you a fair sense of the scale they're bringing to Charlotte.
Behind the production is a full creative team: Marc Bruni directs, Dominique Kelley handles the choreography, and Kait Kerrigan wrote the book. The original score is by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen. It's a touring company, so this is the same production that's been on the road, not a local adaptation.
There are plenty of options for when to catch it. Weeknight performances run Tuesday through Friday, October 13 to 16, all at 7:30 PM. Saturday, October 17, has a matinee at 2:00 PM and an evening show at 7:30 PM. Sunday, October 18, has a 1:00 PM matinee and a 6:30 PM evening show. If you're going with a group, there are a couple of breaks: groups of 10 or more get 10% off the base ticket price, and groups of 40 or more get one complimentary ticket, though neither offer applies to the Saturday or Sunday matinees.
