Free pop-up food share event where surplus food items are distributed to the community through Nourish Up.
Nourish Up is hosting a pop-up food share at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday, October 6, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a free event, and the food is distributed in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank, which provides the surplus items that get handed out.
If you're not familiar with the name, Nourish Up came together when two long-standing nonprofits, Loaves & Fishes and Friendship Trays, joined forces. They run the largest network of food pantries in North Carolina, getting groceries to neighbors in need across Mecklenburg County. Beyond the pantries, they handle grocery home delivery and deliver healthy meals every weekday through their Meals on Wheels program.
These pop-up shares are a bit different from their regular pantry work. They're run with Second Harvest Food Bank and distribute surplus food items, so the quantity and variety of what's available change from one share to the next. Pre-registration is requested, but there's no ID, referral, or financial documentation required to get food.
