Bluegrass and folk string quartet Kitchen Dwellers perform with psychedelic jazz-funk band Dogs In A Pile at the Neighborhood Theatre.
Kitchen Dwellers play the Neighborhood Theatre on Saturday, November 7, with Dogs In A Pile opening. The Dwellers are a quartet from Bozeman, Montana — Shawn Swain on mandolin, Torrin Daniels on banjo, Joe Funk on upright bass, and Max Davies on acoustic guitar — who blend bluegrass, folk, and psychedelic grit into modern string music. They've played Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Ryman Auditorium, and have appeared at festivals like Bonnaroo, Telluride Bluegrass, and Under The Big Sky.
Their recent work includes Seven Devils, released in 2024, which debuted at number one on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums chart, and The Katabatic, a three-song EP recorded in late 2021. Between the two, there's enough to pull from for a full set, and the band's sound sits right at the intersection of traditional bluegrass and something a bit more experimental.
Dogs In A Pile open the night. They're a five-piece from Asbury Park, New Jersey — Jimmy Law, Brian Murray, Jeremy Kaplan, Sam Lucid, and Joe Babick — playing psychedelic-tinged jazz-funk rock n' roll. They've averaged around 130 live shows a year since 2022 and released the album Distroid.
