Middle C Jazz presents John Splithoff performing solo with voice and guitar, drawing on classic soul, pop, jazz, roots and R&B.
John Splithoff plays the Booth Playhouse at Blumenthal Arts Center on Wednesday, October 28, at 7 PM. The show is presented by Middle C Jazz, and the format is exactly what the tour name suggests: Splithoff performing solo with just his voice and guitar, stripping his catalog back to those two things.
If you're not familiar with him, Splithoff is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in the Chicago suburbs on Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, and Earth, Wind & Fire. He earned a degree in Jazz Performance from the University of Miami's Frost School of Music before moving to New York, where he wrote his breakout single "Sing to You." That track topped AC Radio and put him on international stages alongside Sting, Ben Folds, David Foster, and Chris Botti, after he toured Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo and opened for Teddy Swims. His song "Tangled" also reached the Top 30 on the national AC Radio charts.
Much of the set will likely draw from his latest album, Far From Here, which came out through Virgin in March 2025. It pulls from classic soul, pop, jazz, roots, and R&B, with a voice and musical approach that recall Michael McDonald and Sade. Hearing that material stripped down to voice and guitar is a different way of listening to it than the recorded versions.
