John Cameron Mitchell brings his Hedwig 25th Anniversary Movie Tour to The Fillmore in Charlotte.
John Cameron Mitchell brings the Hedwig and the Angry Inch 25th Anniversary Movie Tour to The Fillmore on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. It's a movie screening of the film he wrote, directed, and starred in, and it's part of a tour marking twenty-five years since the story first hit the stage.
If you're not familiar, Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the story of Hedwig, a gender-queer singer and songwriter who’s spent her life fighting for her voice and her art. It's a rock show at its heart, and the movie captures that energy. The tour is built around the anniversary, so it's as much a celebration of the character's history as it is a screening of the film itself.
Since it's a movie tour, the main event is the film on the big screen. It's a chance to see the whole thing in a theater rather than at home, with the sound and the scale it was meant for. Mitchell is the one behind it all—writer, director, and the lead role—so the tour keeps the focus on the work he built from the ground up.

There are a couple of practical things to keep in mind before you head out. The show is 18+ only, so you'll need to be of age to get in. Doors open at 6 PM, and the screening starts at 7 PM. If you're planning on grabbing a drink or finding a good spot before it kicks off, arriving closer to when the doors open is your best bet.
