Piano virtuoso Emmet Cohen returns to the Jazz Room with his acclaimed trio to close out the 2026-27 season, blending stride, swing, blues and modern jazz.
The Emmet Cohen Trio returns to the Booth Playhouse at Blumenthal Arts Center on Friday, May 14, and Saturday, May 15, 2027. It's a double-header weekend that closes out the 2026-27 season for the Jazz Room, which is presented by JazzArts Charlotte with support from the City of Charlotte, O's Place Jazz, the North Carolina Arts Council, and the Akers Foundation.
Cohen is a piano virtuoso known for a dynamic range and a joyful approach, blending stride, swing, blues, and modern jazz into a single performance style. He's an American pianist and composer who also created the Masters Legacy Series, won the 2019 American Pianists Awards, and was a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition. He headlines regularly at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Village Vanguard, and Birdland, and has played the Newport, Monterey, and North Sea Jazz Festivals, with performances in more than 30 countries.
He's also recorded with a long list of jazz heavyweights: Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Jimmy Heath, Tootie Heath, Houston Person, Kurt Elling, Billy Hart, and Brian Lynch. That's a lot of names from different eras of the music, and it gives you a sense of the company he keeps.
