Open mic night with music, comedy and poetry at The Evening Muse, hosted by Erik Button.
The Evening Muse hosts Find Your Muse, Charlotte's longest-running open mic, on Monday, December 7, at 3227 N. Davidson Street. Erik Button hosts the night, which is built around original writing: anyone is invited to turn up with a guitar, keyboard, ukulele, kazoo, or whatever they play and perform original tunes. The night is open to everyone, with a limit of two songs or ten minutes per performer, and a handful of comedians share the bill each week, so the music sits alongside stand-up.
Because it's an open mic, the lineup changes every time. You'll hear original songs from local writers rather than covers, and the mix of instruments—from guitars and keyboards to the occasional kazoo—keeps the sound from settling into one particular style. The comedians on the bill add another layer to the evening, breaking up the music with sets of their own.
