Annual festival celebrating East Charlotte and Hispanic Heritage Month with arts, crafts, historic sports, guided tours, and a film screening.
East Side Sol returns to the Charlotte Museum of History on Saturday, October 10, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It's the museum's annual celebration of East Charlotte and Hispanic Heritage Month, and it's built for families. The day is centered on arts, crafts, and activity stations, with the chance to play stickball—a historic sport that's more about the game than the gear. Guided tours take you through the 1774 Rock House and the historic Siloam School, and there's a Garinger High School history meetup on the schedule too.
Beyond the activities, you can catch a Smithsonian Channel screening of America in Color: Small Town Life and spend some time with the exhibit ¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues / En los barrios y las grandes ligas, which closes on October 18. If you've been meaning to see it, this is a good day to get in before it's gone.
The museum itself is an eight-acre campus that interprets and preserves the region's history across four galleries of permanent and rotating exhibits, with Revolutionary-era buildings on the 1774 Homesite. It's a place that keeps the area's past on display, and it does so without routine funding from the city, county, state, or federal government.
