The Charlotte Symphony performs James Horner's score live alongside the Dr. Seuss film, with Little Cindy Lou Who turning the Grinch's plans upside down.
The Charlotte Symphony brings Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas in Concert to Ovens Auditorium on Friday, November 27, and Saturday, November 28. It's a live-to-picture screening, so the movie plays on the big screen while the orchestra performs the score right there in the room. The symphony is playing James Horner's original score, conducted by Christopher James Lees.
If you're not familiar with the movie, it's the one with Jim Carrey as the Grinch, who spends the whole story trying to outwit Whoville until the small voice of Little Cindy Lou Who changes the course of Christmas. The symphony plays Horner's vibrant score live alongside the film, so the music you hear is coming from the stage, not a recording. It's a family-friendly one, built around the story of heart, humor, and holiday spectacle.
There are two performances to choose from. The first is Friday evening, November 27, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM. That one also has audio description available, which is a good detail to keep in mind if you're bringing someone who needs it. The second is Saturday afternoon, November 28, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, which works better if you've got kids in tow or just prefer a matinee. Both are at Ovens Auditorium, 2700 E Independence Blvd in Charlotte.
