A musical based on the 1987 film, following Frances 'Baby' Houseman as she discovers love and independence through her relationship with dance instructor Johnny Castle, performed to live music from the original soundtrack.
Dirty Dancing: The Musical comes to the Belk Theater at Blumenthal Arts Center for a week-long run starting Tuesday, November 3, 2026. It's the stage adaptation of the Lionsgate film, written by Eleanor Bergstein, and it brings back the summer of 1963 with live music from the original soundtrack. The story follows Frances 'Baby' Houseman as she discovers love and independence through her relationship with dance instructor Johnny Castle, with scenes set at Kellerman's.
Annalese Starzec plays Baby and Blake Zelesnikar takes on Johnny Castle. The production is directed by Lonny Price, with choreography by Darrell Grand Moultrie. The show is on its North American tour, which launched at the Ordway Center in Saint Paul back in August. The original film grossed over $200 million worldwide and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and a Grammy.
The Belk Theater is part of the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. It was designed by architect Cesar Pelli and opened in 1992, with a contemporary European horseshoe arrangement and about 2,400 fiber-optic 'points of light' in the audience chamber.
