The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra presents Bruckner's monumental Symphony No. 9, conducted by Kwamé Ryan, with Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos by the duo Ran Dank and Soyeon Kate Lee.
The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra brings its Classical Series to a close at Knight Theater with Bruckner's Symphony No. 9, performed Friday, May 21, Saturday, May 22, and Sunday, May 23, 2027. It's a big way to wrap up the series, and the program pairs the symphony with Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos.
Bruckner's Ninth is a heavy piece of music, and there's a good reason it's the finale. He left it unfinished at his death, and it gathers echoes of his previous works, standing as a monument to his creative life—vast in scale and rich with spiritual depth. The evening opens with Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos, where the piano duo Ran Dank and Soyeon Kate Lee engage in a playful musical dialogue. Between the two, you get a bit of everything: Mozart's lighter, conversational side and Bruckner's expansive, unfinished symphony.
Leading the orchestra is Music Director Kwamé Ryan, now in his third season with the Charlotte Symphony. He's a Grammy Award winner born in Canada and educated in Trinidad and Tobago and the UK, and he's worked his way through some serious posts: General Music Director of Freiburg Opera and later Musical and Artistic Director of the Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine. He was also made a Knight in the French State's Order of Arts and Letters.
