A Halloween-themed glass blowing demonstration held in the dark, featuring a spooky piece creation, costume contest, and refreshments.
Hot Glass Alley is doing its monthly open demo with a Halloween twist on Friday, October 16, from 6 PM to 9 PM. The studio is at 438 Atando Avenue in Charlotte, and the whole thing is free—no tickets or reservations needed.
If you've never been, here's how a regular night works: you watch a piece of glass art go from a blob of molten material to a finished work, with commentary along the way to explain what's happening. The evening wraps up with a look at the gallery and some info on the studio's classes. This October edition flips the script. The demo happens in the dark, lit only by the natural glow of the molten glass and the ovens, and the team is making a spooky-themed piece. There's also a Halloween costume contest to crown the night, so it's a good excuse to show up in character.
Hot Glass Alley is Charlotte's first hot glass art studio, owned by artist Jake Pfeifer, who's been blowing glass since he was 14. Beyond the monthly demos, the studio runs 'Blow Your Own' sessions and 'Sip & Fuse!' evening fusing classes, and hosts guest artists, date nights, and event space. There's a gallery on-site with glass vessels, small sculptures, and one-of-a-kind gifts.
