The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra presents a 360-degree view of J.S. Bach, with conductor Christopher James Lees, exploring the Baroque composer's enduring legacy.
The Charlotte Symphony brings Bach 360 to the Booth Playhouse in Founders Hall, with three performances over two days: Friday, Nov 13 at 7:30 PM, and Saturday, Nov 14 at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Resident Conductor Christopher James Lees leads the orchestra, joined by the Charlotte Master Chorale Chamber Choir.
The title tells you the setup. This is part of the symphony's 360 series, a format where the audience gathers around the orchestra for a 360-degree view of the music. It's a different way to experience a concert—instead of sitting in rows facing a stage, you're wrapped around the ensemble. It's the same series that gave us Mendelssohn 360, and this one focuses on J.S. Bach.
Lees builds the program around Bach's reach across generations and how his music became a foundation for composers long after his time. The set pairs Bach's sacred choral works and the Air on the G String with pieces by C.P.E. Bach, J.C. Bach, and others shaped by his legacy. It's a look at the Baroque influence that Bach left behind, and how it continued to work through the composers who followed him.
