The live incarnation of the award-winning storytelling show The Blindboy Podcast, blending history, fiction, culture and politics in an intimate atmosphere.
The Blindboy Podcast LIVE comes to New Theatre on Tuesday 20 October, part of what Blindboy Boatclub calls his biggest UK tour yet. The show is the live version of his award-winning storytelling podcast, which he describes as intertwining history, fiction, cultural critique and politics into a form he calls 'the podcast hug'. It's rooted in the Irish tradition of the Seanchaí — the old-school Gaelic storyteller who kept history and folklore alive through the spoken word — and it carries that same spirit of long-form, conversational storytelling into a live room.
Boatclub is a self-described polymath, and the range of what he does is a good part of the appeal. He's a best-selling author, screenwriter, songwriter, musician, producer and academic, and The New York Times called him a 'cultural phenomenon'. The original podcast has drawn more than 60 million global listeners, democratising subjects like art, psychology, politics, science and music by breaking them down into something accessible and conversational. The live show has been staged from Toronto to Galway, and every performance features a surprise special guest.
