An evening of 60s classics performed by the Sounds of the 60s All Star Band & Singers, hosted by Tony Blackburn.
Tony Blackburn OBE brings his Sounds of the 60s show to the New Theatre on Wednesday 21 July 2027, as part of a UK tour. It's a live version of his Radio 2 show, with the Sounds of the 60s All Star Band & Singers performing the music of the decade Blackburn calls perhaps the most iconic ten years in music, fashion and popular culture.
Blackburn has been a presence on British radio since the sixties, when he started DJing for Radio Caroline and then Radio London. It was at Radio London that he introduced the first ever soul programme to the UK, and in 1967 he became the first voice heard on BBC Radio 1 when it launched. He later joined Capital Gold in the eighties, won I'm a Celebrity... in 2002, and has since launched the digital music channel That's 60s. He's picked up two Radio Academy Lifetime Achievement awards and an OBE in 2024 for services to broadcasting.
The show takes that radio format on the road, with the All Star Band & Singers handling the music while Blackburn hosts. The set focuses on the classics of the sixties, the same era he's spent much of his career championing. It's a night built around the songs and the stories from that decade, with the live band and singers taking the place of the records he's played on air.
