Free drop-in concert by Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama students performing works by black composers from the 19th to 21st century.
Students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama are performing at the National Museum Cardiff on Thursday 21 October, as part of a concert series the college brings to the museum throughout the autumn. This particular one is a Black History Month concert, and it's taking place in the Main Hall.
The programme brings together songs and instrumental music by black composers from the 19th to the 21st century. You'll hear Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Florence Price and Valerie Coleman, so it reaches across a good stretch of time and style. The music is performed by the college's current students, and the full programme is available via QR codes at the venue.
For a bit of context, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama is Wales' national conservatoire and its largest producing house, training more than 900 actors, musicians, designers, technicians and arts managers from over 40 countries. Principal Helena Gaunt calls it a 'people's conservatoire', a place where students, artists and local communities co-create performances, exhibitions and participation. The college is also one of Cardiff's most popular arts venues, staging over 500 public performances each year. This concert is part of the series they bring to the National Museum Cardiff, where audiences hear its students perform classical and contemporary works from across the globe in various museum spaces.
