A new version of Pinocchio by Jennifer Lunn, performed in Welsh for children aged 3-6, with an informal seating arrangement for young audiences.
Pinocchio opens at the Sherman Theatre Studio on 23 November, running through to 2 January. It's a new version of Carlo Collodi's story by Jennifer Lunn, with a Welsh translation by Hanna Jarman, performed by an actor-musician cast. The show runs in both English and Welsh, with separate performances for each language, so you can choose the one that works for you.
Lunn has written many of the Studio's Christmas shows for very young audiences, and she's described this festive slot as the highlight of her season for years. This one is built for children aged 3-6 and their families, and the Studio is staging it as an informal first theatre experience: seating is on mats, benches and chairs rather than rows, which keeps things relaxed for the little ones. The production is part of the Made by Sherman season, which brings six new plays by Welsh and Wales-based writers—three of whom were nurtured by the theatre's Literary Department, with funding from Arts Council of Wales and Bad Wolf. Pinocchio also tours South Wales before its Cardiff run.
