Classic Alfred Hitchcock double-bill with The Birds and Psycho in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre, featuring immersive cinema, vintage atmosphere and a pop-up bar.
National Museum Cardiff is dedicating a whole day to Alfred Hitchcock on Saturday 31 October, with The Birds (1963) at 2pm and Psycho (1960) at 7pm. Both run in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre, and if you're feeling ambitious, you can do the double. It's part of Movies at the Museum, the museum's immersive cinema series, which they pitch as more than just a screening: it's a blend of classic film, live performance, atmosphere and nostalgia.
The Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre is dressed as a vintage movie setting, and usherettes from Kitsch & Sync Collective escort you to your seat. Each screening runs about 150 minutes with a 15-minute interval, and doors open half an hour before. The features are captioned in English, and admission to the museum itself is free, so you can wander the galleries before or after. The double bill is rounded off with a short film and a pop-up bar serving popcorn, confectionery and drinks, with era-defining music and imagery from the museum's own historic heyday playing in the background.
