An immersive evening in the golden age of cinema with Kitsch & Sync Collective usherettes, ending with the classic film Singin' in the Rain.
Singin' in the Rain is coming to the National Museum Cardiff on Saturday 27 February, as part of the Movies at the Museum series. It's a double-screening day, with a matinee at 2pm and an evening showing at 7pm, both held in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre.
Movies at the Museum is an immersive cinema series put on by Amgueddfa Cymru, and it's not just about the film. The museum transforms the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre into a vintage movie setting, and the experience starts before the main feature even begins. Kitsch & Sync Collective's usherettes are on hand to entertain you as they escort you through the aisles, and the screenings are preceded by short films, so there's a bit of a build-up before the main event. There's also a pop-up bar serving popcorn, confectionery and drinks to keep you going through the intervals.
The main feature is Singin' in the Rain, the 1952 musical that's become one of the most famous films of the golden age of cinema. It's a bright, high-energy comedy about the transition from silent films to 'talkies' in Hollywood, and it's as much a tribute to the movie-making process as it is a story in its own right. The film is captioned in English, and it's rated U, so it works for all ages.
