Stand-up comedy show Tilting at Windmills by John Kearns, directed by Jon Brittain, at the Sherman Theatre.
John Kearns brings his new stand-up show, Tilting at Windmills, to the Sherman Theatre on Saturday 6 November. It's a brand-new hour, and it's been directed by Jon Brittain, the Olivier Award winner who's worked with him before.
If you've come across Kearns on TV, you'll probably recognise him from Taskmaster on Channel 4, where he was one of the contestants. He's also appeared on Live at the Apollo (BBC) and Never Mind the Buzzcocks (Sky), and he has a stand-up special, The Varnishing Days, on Sky. He's a double Edinburgh Comedy Award winner, so this is a proper piece of work rather than just a few bits and pieces thrown together.
The reviews for Tilting at Windmills have been strong. The Guardian called it "delightful, poetic" and "perfectly structured with overlapping themes and surprising callbacks", while The Times said it's "about as funny as anything this decade". Between those two, you get a decent sense of what to expect: a show that's as much about the writing and the structure as it is about the jokes.
