Jeremy Bowen, BBC International Editor, discusses the battle for truth in conflict zones and takes questions from the audience.
Jeremy Bowen brings Truth Under Fire to the New Theatre on Friday 23 October, starting at 7:30pm. It's a talking evening rather than a performance, with the BBC's International Editor taking the stage to talk about the battle for truth in conflict zones.
Bowen's career puts the whole thing in perspective. He's spent more than 40 years reporting from over 90 countries and 20 wars, from El Salvador back in 1989 right through to today's frontlines. Along the way he's interviewed world leaders, documented war crimes and filed reports from the middle of conflicts across the globe. Truth Under Fire comes from his observation that press freedom is collapsing in conflict zones, with governments restricting access and manipulating information while social media floods screens with competing claims. That's the core of the night: how we get the truth when the people in power don't want it out, and how we make sense of it when we're hit with a thousand different versions at once.
The evening isn't just a monologue, either. There's a Q&A as part of the programme, so you can put your own questions to him and hear him answer them in person. If you've followed his reporting over the years, it's a chance to ask about the things you've wondered while watching his dispatches from the field.
