Stand-up comedy show by Jack Dee, celebrating 40 years in comedy, at the Sherman Theatre.
Jack Dee brings Jack's Joke Show to the Sherman Theatre on Thursday 6 May 2027, a night that marks 40 years in stand-up. It's a retrospective rather than a new tour: he describes it as a memoir of his favourite old stories, with no new material. If you've followed him for years, it's the hits; if you're coming to him for the first time, it's a good place to start.
Dee's career has been built on a very specific, very recognisable persona: the grumpy, 'couldn't care less' man on stage. He first performed at an open-mike gig in 1988 while working menial kitchen jobs, and the act took off in 1991 when he won the British Comedy Award for best stage newcomer and earned a Perrier Award nomination. By 1992 he had his own Channel 4 series, and by 1995 he was starring in his own ITV show.
Beyond the stand-up, he's worked across a fair few different formats. He won the first Celebrity Big Brother in 2001 and has been a regular on I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. He's also done drama, with roles in The Grimleys (1996), Tunnel of Love (2004) and The Deputy (2004), and he played the title role in Yasmina Reza's Art in the West End. His awards list runs long too: two British Comedy Awards in 1995, three British Advertising awards for his John Smith's Bitter commercials in 1997, and best stand-up at the 1997 British Comedy Awards.
