Halloween Underground Cinema | Hocus Pocus

Darkened Rooms are taking over The Undercroft at Cardiff Castle on Saturday 31 October for their Halloween Underground Cinema, a day-long cinema takeover inside the castle's medieval stone-vaulted room. They've dressed the space with spooky decorations, so the whole thing feels like an underground cinema for the day, with the eerie atmosphere of the Undercroft doing a good bit of the work itself.

The programme runs from family-friendly Halloween favourites through to full-blooded horror, and it's set up so you can pick your level of spook. Hocus Pocus kicks things off at 11.45am, followed by The Nightmare Before Christmas and Little Shop of Horrors. If you're after something properly frightening, The Descent rounds out the day. It's a wide enough spread that you can bring the kids for the morning and afternoon and still find something to sit through later on.

Cardiff Castle hosts several family events like this throughout the year, alongside summer concerts and indoor and outdoor cinema screenings, so this fits right into the usual run of things. The Undercroft is a proper medieval space, and seeing a screen set up in there is a bit different from your usual cinema trip.

Tickets are £15 for adults and £9 for ages 2 to 15, and Hocus Pocus starts at 11.45am.
