A six-week free photography course for 16-25 year olds, led by Pierre Simon, covering composition, lighting, and visual storytelling, finishing with a live exhibition.
Explore Photography with Pierre Simon kicks off at the Wales Millennium Centre on Tuesday 13 October, a free six-week course for 16-25 year olds. It's run by filmmaker and photographer Pierre Simon, who's back for a second year after a successful first run. The Welsh title is Archwilio Ffotograffiaeth.
The course builds the basics of photography over six weekly sessions on Tuesday evenings, from 13 October to 17 November, 6-8pm. Simon covers composition, lighting, framing and visual storytelling, and you'll get to experiment with different styles along the way: portrait, event, editorial and documentary. As you go, you'll develop a mini-project of your own. There's also a dedicated shooting and editing day on Saturday 14 November, 11am-4pm, to give you a proper stretch of time to work on your images.
The whole thing culminates in a live exhibition at the Wales Millennium Centre, where your work goes on display for the public to see. The exhibition launch is on Tuesday 24 November, so by the end you've gone from learning the ropes to showing your work in one of the city's biggest venues. It's a good way to get a proper look at how a project moves from the first few shots to a finished exhibition.
Every week we pick ๐ the 5 best ๐ things to do in Cardiff and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's free, but spaces are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's worth getting your name in early. The sessions run on Tuesdays, 13 October to 17 November, 6-8pm, with the shooting day on 14 November, 11am-4pm, and the exhibition launch on 24 November, all at the Wales Millennium Centre, Bute Place, Cardiff, CF10 5AL.
