The multi-award-winning musical Chicago, set in the decadence of the 1920s, returns to the Donald Gordon Theatre.
Chicago is coming to the Donald Gordon Theatre in Cardiff from 22 to 27 February 2027. It's the multi-award-winning musical set in the decadence of the 1920s, and it's billed as the 'sexiest musical ever'.
The story follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover and then hires Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to turn her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines. Her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, watches on from the next cell. It's a dark, satirical look at fame and the way the legal system can be manipulated by a good publicist.
Behind the scenes, the show was created by John Kander and Fred Ebb, with choreography by the legendary Bob Fosse. The score includes 'Razzle Dazzle', 'Cell Block Tango' and 'All That Jazz' – numbers that have become shorthand for the whole show. It's picked up six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards and a Grammy, and has drawn thousands of standing ovations over the years.
