An adaptable movement session inspired by Scaravelli Yoga and Creative Asana, exploring movement patterns and alternative pedagogies.
Anushiye Yarnell brings Archipelago Movement to Chapter on Friday 16 October, a morning session that sits somewhere between a movement class and a creative practice. It runs from 09:30 for an hour and a half, so it's a proper start to the day rather than a quick stretch.
Archipelago Movement is an adaptable session that draws on a few different traditions. Yarnell works with Scaravelli Yoga and Creative Asana, developmental and evolutionary movement patterns, and Noguchi Gymnastics, and she weaves those together with her own research. The session is offered in two formats: 'Incrementals', a gentler, mat-based version, and 'Dynamics', which is the one that gets you moving around the space. This particular date is the 'Dynamics' session, so expect to be on your feet and working with the room.
It helps to know who's leading it. Anushiye Yarnell is an interdisciplinary artist whose work spans movement, sound, voice, text, drawing, participation and alternative pedagogies. She describes her practice as examining the intersections of dream and fantasy realms with ordinary life, and that same curiosity comes through in how she puts this session together.
