A cabaret of Halloween-themed songs with theatrical flair and an unpredictable MC, performed by the band Vaguely Artistic.
Vaguely Artistic are playing A Vaguely SpooOooky Halloween at the Wales Millennium Centre on Friday 23 October, a cabaret-tinged Halloween warm-up they're billing as part gig, part glorious curveball. The set mixes an eclectic run of originals, left-field covers and a couple of Halloween classics served with theatrical flair, fronted by an unpredictable MC and a touch of bedevilment. They're inviting the audience to turn up in their most Halloween-y outfit, with a costume prize on the night.
The band, Vaguely Artistic, is Hijinx's in-house inclusive punk, rock, pop, soul, blues and funk outfit. Their debut album, Vaguely Accomplished, gathers tracks like 'Social Eyes', 'What Level Are We On' and the Christmas single 'Hymn to the Lights', and they're a regular feature of the Unity Festival Closing Night Party. The mix of styles they work across — punk, rock, pop, soul, blues and funk — is a good guide to the kind of ground they cover in a single set, and the 'left-field covers' part of the bill suggests they're not sticking to one corner of the songbook.
