Trumpeter Tomos Williams returns to Cabaret to play the music of jazz legend Miles Davis with his band 7Steps, celebrating the centenary of Davis' birth.
Tomos Williams is back at Cabaret on Sunday 15 November, playing the music of Miles Davis with his band 7Steps. It's his second time at the venue this year, following a sold-out show in February, and the timing has a bit of a hook to it: 2026 is the centenary of Davis' birth. 7Steps approaches the work of one of the 20th century's towering musical figures with passion and vigour, and they're doing it as a quintet.
On trumpet is Williams himself, joined by Joe Northwood on tenor sax, Dave Jones on piano, Paula Gardiner on bass and Mark O'Connor on drums. It's a classic jazz line-up, and the set is built around the music of Miles Davis, whose influence runs through almost every corner of the genre. Williams is a leading and unique voice on the Welsh jazz scene and draws heavily on Davis' work, so this is him returning to a source he knows well.
He doesn't just do jazz, either. Williams also leads the jazz/folk sextet Burum, the Indo-Welsh fusion band Khamira — who've played in South Korea, India and Wales — and his Cwmwl Tystion/Witness project. 7Steps has a habit of selling out, too: they've played to full houses at Aberjazz in Fishguard in 2025 and at the Dora Stoutzker Hall in Cardiff in 2023 and 2020.
