A disco music gig with Evelyn and the Shakedown, bringing 17 musicians to the dance floor for an energetic night of soul, funk and pop.
Evelyn and the Shakedown bring their immersive music experience to The Trinity Centre on Thursday 17 December, with the night running from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. The set moves through disco, soul, funk and pop, and they'll be joined by an all-star line-up of 17 singers and musicians on stage. It's a big band on a big night, and the whole thing is built around getting you to sing, dance and get involved.
Evelyn and the Shakedown describe themselves as a live band built on a large-scale line-up, strong musicianship and a love of classic and contemporary music. They're known for energetic shows that turn venues into all-out discos, and for their own takes on familiar favourites and modern hits. They tour across the UK and Europe, including the UK festival circuit, so this is one of their dates on the road.
The venue is The Trinity Centre, a converted Grade II* listed former church in East Bristol that's been at the heart of the city's music scene since the 1970s. It's hosted movements like dub, ska, jungle and the Bristol Sound, with Joy Division, The Specials, Prodigy and Public Enemy among the acts that have played its stage. Since 2004 it's also worked as a multi-arts venue and community arts centre, keeping its soundsystem heritage alive with local regulars like Teachings in Dub, Sofa Sound and Timedance alongside theatre, dance and community events.
