Manchester Collective performs Philip Glass's music with vocalist Rylan Gleave, marking the composer's 90th anniversary.
Manchester Collective bring their Glass Reframed series to Lantern Hall on Saturday 30 January, a concert marking Philip Glass's 90th anniversary. Glass is one of the big names of minimalism, and his work has touched everything from Martin Scorsese's films to collaborations with Aphex Twin. This evening pairs him with vocalist Rylan Gleave, whose own work stretches across doom metal, experimental and orchestral music. Gleave brings haunting vocals and a dark take on an ancient prayer to the night.
The programme doesn't stop with Glass. There's Devotions by Edmund Finnis, written for string quartet and voice, and a new commission to hear alongside the rest. The Collective themselves are a string quartet, and they'll be playing throughout, with Gleave's vocals woven in. It's part of Bristol Beacon's 2026/27 Orchestral Season, and there's a second concert, Glass Reframed II, following on Friday 12 March at St George's Bristol; if you book both, you save 10%.
