BAFTA award-winning author and spoken-word artist Lemn Sissay brings his acclaimed show to the stage, blending live readings with the stories behind his poems.
Lemn Sissay brings his show Let the Light Pour In to the Main Hall at St George's Bristol on Tuesday 20 October, starting at 7.30pm. Sissay is a BAFTA award-winning author, spoken-word artist, activist and Sunday Times number one bestseller, and this is the live version of his latest book.
The show comes from a ten-year habit: every morning, Sissay wrote four lines and shared them on social media without explanation or title. The public's response turned them into murals, book quotes, songs and even tattoos. He chose the best of those for Let the Light Pour In, which became a Sunday Times bestseller, and he's now reimagined it for the stage. The evening blends live readings from his books with the original stories behind the poems, alongside humour, truth and hope. It's billed as an evening on the power of creativity, and the audience can pepper him with questions.
Sissay's work fuses the lyrical and the polemical, and he's published many books over the years, including The Emperor's Watchmaker, his first for children. He's also collaborated with artists and musicians, including Leftfield, whose album Leftism features his '21st Century Poem'.
