KeiyaA brings her boundary-pushing live show, blending R&B, jazz and electronics, to Bristol Beacon.
keiyaA plays Bristol Beacon on Friday 6 November, with the show taking place in The Lantern Hall on Trenchard Street. It's a solo bill, so it's just her on stage for the night.
What she's bringing is a live show that reworks material from hooke's law and milk thot into something fluid, improvised and emotionally charged. Rather than playing the songs as they sit on the records, she pulls them apart and builds them back up in the room, so the set changes from night to night. The sound sits at the intersection of R&B, jazz and electronics, with fragmented rhythms and vocals that cut through dense, elastic production. It's a performance that moves between intimacy and abrasion, and she describes it less as a fixed set than an evolving act of self-interrogation, where the music becomes a way of thinking out loud in front of an audience.
That's the core of what she does: excavating identity, desire and survival through sound. The Guardian called it a 'low-key yet potent swirl of bedroom pop, R&B and electronic music', and that gives a fair sense of the ground she covers. It's music that doesn't stay in one place, pulling from a few different traditions and letting them rub up against each other.
