A 45-minute immersive haptic yoga experience combining movement, music and haptic floor technology, part of Brazen Live Track.
Beat Blocks are bringing Haptic Yoga to The Crypt at St Nicholas Church in Bristol, with 45-minute sessions running from Monday 9 to Friday 13 November. It's a UK first, put on by the Bristol-based Beat Blocks in collaboration with Moments of Flow, and the sessions are led by Sarah Fyson. The whole thing forms part of Brazen Live Track, a series of live experiences created for Brazen, the city's festival of technology, creativity and culture.
The core of it is the haptic floor, which was invented by creative technologist and touring performance poet Rowan James. The story goes that while he was out of time with his backing track on stage, he wondered, 'What if I could feel the beat as well as hear it?'. With support from Innovate UK, he produced a prototype haptic floor that's now used at events and festivals around the world. Here, it's the main event: music comes literally from beneath the floor through haptic decks that turn sound into physical vibrations you can feel through your body.
On top of that, the sessions blend somatics, yoga, breath, dance and visualisation, so you're moving and breathing while the music vibrates through the floor. It's a 45-minute experience, and because it's part of a wider run, you can pick a slot that fits your week between Monday 9 and Friday 13 November. The sessions are for ages 16 and over.

A few practical things to keep in mind: you'll need to bring your own water and a yoga mat, and you should wear comfortable clothing. The Crypt is accessed by stairs and has no wheelchair access, so that's worth knowing before you head down. The sessions run from Monday 9 to Friday 13 November at The Crypt at St Nicholas Church, 45 minutes each, for ages 16 and over.
