Pete Josef solo show with Sailing Moon on their Bristol debut, presented by Ear Trumpet Music.
Pete Josef plays a solo show at Arnolfini on Saturday 24 October, with Sailing Moon supporting on their Bristol debut. The night is presented by Ear Trumpet Music.
Josef's set pulls together the three threads of his creative life: soul music, driving dance material and guitar-led songwriting. He draws on Colour, I Rise with the Birds and the 2026 Lifeline/Defence double. Colour and its title track gained support from Gilles Peterson and 6Music back in 2015, which led to shows at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Tokyo, at Southern Soul Montenegro and at the Worldwide awards at Koko in London. Since then, he's collaborated with Roni Size, Jazzanova, Manu Delago and Darren Emerson in the lo-fi dance duo The White Lamp. 2026 brings his second solo EP in as many years, Lifeline, following Defence in 2024.
Sailing Moon is a quartet whose sound sits between GoGo Penguin, The Cinematic Orchestra and Tortoise. It began as the moniker of Dorset hang-drummer and guitarist Joe Gaines, who teamed up with drummer and composer Fred Hills in 2020, later joined by multi-instrumentalist James Osler and bassist Joe Woodham. This is their first Bristol show.
