Sally Cookson and Adam Peck's adaptation of Cinderella, directed by Lisa Gregan, returns to Bristol Old Vic for the festive season with live music, puppetry and movement.
Cinderella: A Fairytale returns to Bristol Old Vic on 27 November, running through to 2 January. It's a reimagining of the Brothers Grimm tale, first devised by Bristol artists Sally Cookson and Adam Peck alongside the original company and first staged at the Tobacco Factory fifteen years ago. This version brings it back for 2026, with Peck returning to help bring it to life.
The story follows the free-spirited Ella, who finds solace in the woods with her feathered friends after her father remarries. Things change when a mysterious boy who shares her love of bird-watching discovers her hideout and brings her an invitation to the Royal Ball. It's staged with live music, modern mischief, puppetry and movement, and has been described as a 'magnificent festive treat' and an 'absolute triumph' praised for its 'genuine warmth'.
Joëlle Brabban plays Ella, with Dionne Draper as the Queen, Daisy Ann Fletcher as the Sister, Guy Hughes as the Brother, Joseph Langdon as the Prince, and Cathy Walker as the Stepmother. Harry Miller takes on the double role of MC and musician, with music directed by Alex Heane and the whole production directed by Lisa Gregan. The show is an Olivier Award-nominated adaptation, and it's recommended for ages five and over.
