A one-day symposium bringing together artists and photographers from across the globe to discuss the festival's exhibition programme, presented with the British Journal of Photography and the University of the West of England.
The Bristol Photo Festival is holding a one-day symposium at the Arnolfini Theatre on Friday 16 October, bringing together artists and photographers from across the globe to talk through the festival's exhibition programme. It's presented with the British Journal of Photography and the University of the West of England, and it sits within TIME MACHINE, an exhibition by Joy Gregory that opens at Arnolfini the following day.
The day is built around the artists themselves. The line-up includes Natasha Christia, Kegham Djeghalian Jr, Joy Gregory, Anna Jornet, Akshay Mahajan, Liu Hsing Yu and Annie Wang, all of whom will be there to unpack the ideas behind the festival's programme. It's not just a series of talks, either: there's space for audience questions and a chance to meet the artists informally, so if you've got something you want to ask one of them, this is the time to do it.
Joy Gregory, who's one of the speakers, is a graduate of Manchester Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art, and her practice deals with social and political issues. Her exhibition TIME MACHINE runs at Arnolfini from 17 October 2026 to 7 February 2027, so the symposium acts as a sort of opening conversation for it. Arnolfini itself is a centre for international contemporary arts on Bristol's harbourside, founded in 1961 and devoted to visual arts, performance, dance, film, music, events and workshops.
