A 30-minute holographic show reimagining Bristol's past, present and future, created for Brazen by Holotronica.
Holotronica is taking over St Mary Redcliffe from Friday 6 to Friday 13 November, with a 30-minute holographic show called Bristol: Built by Dreamers. It's a reimagining of the city's past, present and future, and it's part of Brazen, Bristol's festival of technology, creativity and culture. The show sits within Brazen's Live Track programme, curated with Yuup, which frames the city's story around the collision of creativity and technology. St Mary Redcliffe was chosen for its soaring ceilings and centuries of history.
Holotronica is the brainchild of electronic music producer Stuart Warren-Hill, who's been working at the intersection of music and visual technology for over 30 years. In 2000, his duo Hexstatic released REWIND, which Warren-Hill billed as the world's first audiovisual album, and he later collaborated with Coldcut on the award-winning track 'Timber'.
Frustrated by the lack of 3D projection technology, he developed Hologauze, a near-invisible projection screen that makes images appear to float in mid-air. The first successful test came in his own front room in February 2012, and the material has since been used by Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Eurovision and at the London Eye. That's the same technology behind Built by Dreamers.
