The multi-award-winning musical based on the 2000 film, following young Billy as he discovers his passion for dance during the 1984/85 miners' strike.
Billy Elliot The Musical comes to The Bristol Hippodrome on Tuesday 1 February, running through to Saturday 26 February 2028. It's a month-long stay at the Hippodrome, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from if you're planning a trip in.
For those who haven't seen it, the show is based on the multi-BAFTA award-winning and Academy Award-nominated film. It's set in a northern English mining town during the miners' strike of 1984/85, and follows young Billy Elliot as he's pushed from the boxing ring into a ballet class and discovers an unexpected passion and talent for dance. The stage production was brought together by the original film's creative team: Lee Hall wrote the book and lyrics, Stephen Daldry directed, Peter Darling choreographed, and Elton John provided the score. It's returning to UK theatres after a decade away.
It's one of Britain's most celebrated musicals, seen by more than 12 million people across five continents and picking up over 85 international awards, including ten Tony Awards and five Olivier Awards. Back in 2006, the first three boys to play the title role—Liam Mower, James Lomas and George Maguire—became the youngest performers ever to win the Olivier for Best Actor; more than 125 boys have played Billy on stage since. For this run, the cast includes Annette McLaughlin as Mrs Wilkinson, Deka Walmsley as Dad and Jack Bandeira as Tony.
