UK premiere of IndoJazz clarinettist Arun Ghosh's new trio, with tabla and double bass, presented by Asian Arts Agency as part of the New Sounds Festival.
Arun Ghosh brings his new trio, Aaj Kal, to Arnolfini on Sunday 15 November. It's the Bristol premiere of the project, which was commissioned and produced by Asian Arts Agency as part of their New Sounds festival 2026.
Ghosh is a British Asian clarinettist with an award-winning IndoJazz career that's run for three decades, drawing on the legacies of Ustad Bismillah Khan and John Coltrane. For this one, he's working in a trio: Ghosh on clarinet, Shivraj Singh on double bass, and Dalbir Singh Rattan on tabla. The set is built from the raags and taals of two of his albums, Northern Namaste and A South Asian Suite, with the tabla driving his clarinet improvisations. He describes the palette as inspired by drum 'n' bass, UK downtempo, and a Stone Roses-era swagger.

It's a new project, and this is the first time it's being played in Bristol. The room has a capacity of 200, so it's a relatively small setting for a trio of this kind. Doors open at 19:00, with the music starting at 19:30. Tickets are £14.70.
