Live soul and alt-R&B gig by London-based French-Senegalese artist Anaiis, recorded with a live band.
Anaiis plays The Lantern Hall at Bristol Beacon on Sunday 21 March. She's a London-based French-Senegalese artist working in modern soul and alt-R&B, and this is a standing show.
Her music sits at the intersection of those two styles, with rich, layered instrumentation that leaves room for both tenderness and urgency. Much of what she's been working with comes from her acclaimed album Devotion & The Black Divine, which looks at selfhood, homecoming and finding strength in embracing your whole self. More recent singles like 'Sunshine' and 'P4P' show the breadth of where her sound is heading, so the set should pull from both the record and the newer material.
She's recorded with a live band, and that's how the music translates to the stage: layered vocals, warm instrumentation and emotionally charged storytelling. She's billed as one of contemporary soul's distinctive new voices, and the live band setup gives the songs a different energy than you'll find on the recordings.
